Consumer Empowerment & Leadership Training
(CELT)
Debbie Pugh, CELT Program Director, Mental Health Association of Virginia
is seeking a group of consumers who would be interested in taking a three
day course called "Consumer Empowerment & Leadership Training."
The Leadership Academy provides training designed to give mental health
consumers important tools for successful leadership, teaching consumers
how to make their voices heard. This is in response to the many programs
who want consumers to join their boards, committees, and workgroups to
improve mental health services and assist in the development of high quality
services.
Community Service Boards, local Human Rights Committees, and other organizations
are required by Virginia law to include consumers in their activities.
The Leadership Academy empowers consumers to feel ready to share their
experience and know that having a mental illness and having used mental
health services has given them an experience that is worthy of sharing
with others -- that it does make a difference.
Debbie can be reached at programs@mhav.org. Her cell phone is 434-953-9798.
The Mental Health Association of Virginia's website is www.mhav.org. You
can learn more about the Leadership Academy there.
Contact Debbie or go to the website www.mhav.org to find out when the
next courses are offered. There is no charge to consumers and transportation
is provided.
